How do you choose? Which is better? Satellite tv or cable tv? Here are some things to consider...

For years cable TV has been the service that consumers love to hate; it’s long been among the lowest-rated services in many consumer surveys.
Getting Rid of Cable!
Satellite TV delivered through a dish has left cable TV in the stone age. Also, definition and resolution are a lot more impressive from a satellite.
Every day, more and more people are switching from cable TV to satellite.
Your new satellite TV system can be installed in as little as three days from now (sometimes sooner!).
Satelitte TV is the future of home television viewing.

Satellite vs Cable TV

HOW TO CHOOSE?

Is satelitte TV really better? In a word, yes! In consumer survey’s satellite always comes out on top. In addition to having better customer satisfaction and stabler pricing, satellite TV scored higher than did cable—both analog and digital, value for money and picture quality. (Why did satellite score higher in picture quality? Perhaps because it delivers all channels digitally whereas most digital-cable services are actually hybrids: they deliver most channels in analog and use digital only for premium and pay-per-view channels and other networks offered only with digital cable.) Despite its advantages, however, satellite isn’t for all households. Some lack an unobstructed view of the southern horizon and so can’t receive signals from the orbiting satellites. For other households, cable may be the better choice for receiving local channels.

Here’s a guide to help make that choice: Decide which TV programming you want, and at what level of quality. Cable and satellite offer much the same lineup of channels. Areas in which they differ notably include these:

Local channels. The two major satellite TV providers, DirecTV and Dish Network, now offer local channels in many regions. However, even if your area isn’t served, satellite provides only the local affiliates of the major networks, not the community-access or other local channels you’ll find on cable.hannels and enhanced services.

Movies. Satellite and digital cable give you access to more movies than you’ll get from analog cable or over-the-air reception. Satellite and digital cable offer the premium networks, such as HBO andShowtime. in their various families (action, comedy Spanish language, and so on). Digital cable also offers video-on-demand—the ability, in real time, to start and pause programming as you wish for pay movies and other fare.
Sports. In addition to ESPN and other regular sports channels, satellite and many digital-cable services offer regional sports channels and subscription sports packages such as NBA League Pass and NHL Center Ice, which let you purchase all (or sometimes part) of an entire sports season. Satellite offers more of the regional channels, and DirecTV alone offers NFL packages. Cable’s sports distinctions flow from its ability to deliver sports programming from the major networks. including some in high definition. Decide whether you want a satellite dish on your home. A dish may have to be quite conspicuous to be able to receive signals from the satellites overhead. Understand the basic equipment  requirements. Cable requires no equipment purchases. However, for any service except analog cable without premium channels, you’ll need to rent at least one converter box, for about $5 a month on top of your programming fees. For satellite TV you’ll need a dish antenna/receiver combination designed to work with the service you’ve chosen. You can buy hardware directly from the service provider, at an electronics store, or from a satellite-system dealer/installer. The basic setup consists of a dish antenna, a receiver, and a remote. Prices start around $100, although setups are often available free in exchange for a programming commitment (one year is the norm). Free installation is usually included. Decide how many rooms in the house need TV service. Cable has a small advantage for multiroom service: You need not a separate converter box for every set unless you want digital or premium service on every set. Satellite requires a receiver for every set; many dealers offering two or more receivers free.
